Seachem Matrix – High capacity biofiltration

Seachem Matrix is a highly porous bio-media designed for effective biofiltration that removes nitrogenous waste. It consists of an inorganic solid that measures around 10 mm in diameter. One liter of Matrix™ provides more than 700 m² of surface area, which is equivalent to the surface area of 170 liters of plastic bio-balls! Unlike plastic bio-media, which only have external surfaces, Matrix™ offers both external and internal macroporous surfaces. These pores are the perfect size for supporting beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This unique structure enables Matrix™ to simultaneously remove ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in the same filter.

Matrix™ is completely inert and will not break down, so it does not need to be replaced. Since most of the bacteria reside inside the material, you can rinse Matrix™ when necessary without harming its filtration capacity. Additionally, Matrix™ works with all types of wet or wet-dry filters
