Mixed Neocaridina Shrimp are highly favored within the shrimp hobby and are particularly well-suited for beginners! A common guideline suggests keeping about 10 shrimp per gallon of water. Neocaridina Shrimp are known for their hardiness, peaceful nature, and voracious appetite for algae and biofilm found on plants, glass, and substrate, making them an excellent addition to any tank’s cleanup crew.
Setting up a thriving Neocaridina colony is relatively straightforward. Begin by dechlorinating clean tap water or using reverse osmosis (RO) water. Cycle your tank with some plants, and your shrimp colony will have the opportunity to flourish. It’s crucial to avoid tap water with high levels of metals or chemicals that could harm your shrimp. Additionally, ensure that any foods or aquarium fertilizers used are shrimp-safe when dosing your tanks.
Maintaining proper tank parameters is key to a successful Neocaridina colony. Aim for a temperature range of 65-80°F, a pH level between 6.5 and 8, a total dissolved solids (TDS) reading of 170-250 ppm, and a general hardness (GH) between 5.5 and 8.
For optimal breeding success, it’s essential to provide a healthy ratio of females to male shrimp. Keeping different colors of Neocaridina separate helps maintain the purity and color of offspring. Avoid inbreeding different species types, as it can result in less vibrant offspring.
Feeding your shrimp is relatively easy, as they thrive on a variety of foods. Dry foods like fish flakes (without metals) or boiled vegetables such as spinach are suitable options. Boil any fresh vegetables before placing them in the tank to sterilize them properly.
Enhance your tank’s aesthetics and provide additional grazing opportunities for your Neocaridina shrimp by adding various types of plants. They particularly enjoy grazing on plants like java moss, taiwan moss, fissidens, bucephalandra, and java fern. Floating plants such as dwarf water lettuce, Salvinia minima, and Frogbit are also enjoyed by baby shrimp. Each of our shrimp is of high grade, with genetic lineages traced back to award-winning breeders in Taiwan.
